Why work for Staples?
Tangible rewards are great. But we like to think we offer plenty more besides. For example, we’ve gone to great lengths to create a working environment where people feel valued, both financially and emotionally. Here’s a quick peek at some of the reasons our people turn up to work each day with a spring in their step.
Culture
Our culture is all about making things easy. Whether that’s ensuring our customers get exactly what they’re looking for, or providing our people with the tools they need to do their job, and the opportunity to progress should they want to. We’re also very open to new ideas and empower our people to make suggestions, take ownership of their role and shape their own development. So if you want to join a business that will reward and recognise you in equal measure, we’ll make it easy; choose Staples.
Opportunity to progress
If someone in the business has their sights set on the top, or at least the next step on the career ladder, we won’t stand in their way. In fact, we’ll actively encourage them to go for it. After all, who better to have in senior positions than those who already know the business inside out? Growing organisation
The Staples brand continues to go from strength to strength. On a global level, we’re opening extra stores in our existing markets as well as venturing into new ones. And in the UK, we’re still growing. To date we have more than 130 stores, not bad considering we only opened our first one in Swansea in 1993.
And, thanks to our recent merger with Corporate Express, we’re looking forward to enjoying even more opportunities for future growth.
Going the extra mile for customers
At Staples, the customer is king (or queen). They even make it into our company values:
‘Everything begins and ends with our customers. We are here to make buying office products easy for them.’
But why is that a reason to work at Staples? Well, our customers aren’t shy about letting us know how much they enjoy our service. Our store teams regularly receive compliment letters from more-than satisfied customers. And we make sure those teams are recognised for their efforts. It may not be a big thing but ask yourself, when was the last time you were thanked personally for your hard work?
Entrepreneurial spirit
Our business came about because one man, our founder Tom Stemberg, decided to buck the trend and zig while others zagged. Back then, sceptics questioned the need for a discount office supply superstore. But Tom believed in his idea and look where it got him. We continue to encourage our people to think differently to this day.
