At Staples we give all our people the power to make a difference. Now, as an American-owned business, we understand that could come across as a bit full-on. A bit, “let’s all get together and hug-it-out”. But that’s not the case.
Empowerment to us means providing our people with the tools and the resources they need to ensure all our customers have a great experience at Staples. And when our customers tell us how good their experience was, we make a big point of recognising the person or people responsible. We keep a record of all the compliments we receive from our customers, and pass them on to the people they refer to with a handwritten thank you message from a member of the Retail Leadership Team.
It’s a small gesture but it helps to reinforce our commitment to great customer care, plus it’s always nice to have your hard work recognised. Read some of the nice things our customers have said about us.
Our commitment to empowering our people doesn’t just apply to our store teams though. We also support and recognise the valuable roles our distribution centres, sales teams, call centres and head office teams play. In fact, the most empowered decisions are often a result of great cross functional co-operations between all areas of the business.
