Green. It’s our favourite colour.

Eco View

There’s no debating that we’re a colourful business – a quick peek at our range of highlighter pens will tell you that. But if we had to pick a shade that has the most impact on our business it would have to be ’save the planet green’.

Our environmental initiatives help us operate our business in a more sustainable manner – from the products we source and our internal operations to the recycling services we offer our customers. And there are four key areas that we focus on to achieve our goals regarding the environment:

  • Environmentally preferable products
  • Recycling
  • Energy and climate
  • Environmental education

Environmentally Preferable Products

Globally, we offer more than 2,900 eco-friendly office products – everything from nontoxic, natural cleaning products to 100% recycled paper. In fact, our sales of recycled-content paper products have saved more than 1.6 million trees. That’s 5,000 acres of forest. We’re also pursuing a range of opportunities to develop our own-brand products with ‘green’ raw materials, including wood fiber from certified sustainable forests, agricultural wastes, and lower impact bio-based alternatives.

Recycling

From taking back used computers and recycling ink cartridges (more than 17.8m last year alone), to reprocessing cardboard, paper and electronic goods, we’re certainly doing our bit when it comes to protecting the planet’s resources.

Energy & Climate

Climate change is a major world issue. And it’s big news at Staples too. Our investments in energy conservation and renewable energy reflect our commitment to reducing the impacts of our energy use on the environment. If we all do our bit, we can make a difference.

Environmental Education

We have a number of partnerships with organisations who offer environmental education. With their help we’re highlighting the many different ways people can do their bit for the environment. Slowly but surely, we’re spreading the word about how we can protect the wonderful world we live in.
